Head on out, take a turn in the sunshine. We’ve got officers waiting outside for you.

Sergeant Loughton is a police officer in a small town in the Linger Straits.

ATTENTION: SPOILERS AHEAD! Beyond this point, major plot spoilers are expected. Continue at your own risk.

Personality[]

Loughton appears to be respected in the town, as when he asks everyone in the diner to clear it out they do.[1] He is approachable and conversational to Val, even whilst suspicious of her. He doesn't understand why his small town would be an important enough enemy to the Peninsula for it to be targeted by a precision strike.[1]

Background[]

The Last Word tells us that the town doesn't exist. It has never existed. No one was ever born there. Even if they had been, Loughton has been fused to a chair in the town's diner since he was 16. His parents tried to free him but ultimately failed.[1]

Chapters Synopsis
Chapter 31: Its Gaze Shall Fall O'er Trembling Plains Sergeant Loughton speaks to Val in a diner about the fact she is making people uncomfortable. He informs her that there are only two reasons she could be behaving this way: that she either likes causing trouble or she's a terrible spy. Val informs him that she's neither. She's there on a precision attack to wipe out the town. He is killed, slowly and torturously, by Val and her god, the Last Word.
